Veteran actor Moushumi Chatterjee has cleared the air around rumours of her retirement from the film industry. The actress firmly denied any speculation about quitting films or facing health issues, stating that she is very much active and on the lookout for good acting opportunities. She also revealed that her daughter Meghaa now handles her professional commitments.
Moushumi Chatterjee opens up about her long gap from work
In a conversation with Mid-day, the actress said, “Who said I am retiring? Not only am I well enough to work, but I am selective about it. If acting work comes my way that meets my price, terms and conditions, is interesting, and of substantial standards, I am very much open to it. Please do not take anyone else’s word. I wasn’t shooting regularly as I was grieving my elder daughter, Payal’s death. That is why there was a long gap for a few years. Though I have never been very busy, now I am very choosy about what I do. When Payal passed away I couldn’t work for three to four years.”
Moushumi Chatterjee on the kind of roles she wants to do
Chatterjee shared that work has always found its way to her and she has never had to go out of her way to look for it. “I have never visited anybody’s office and asked for work. God has been not just kind but partial to me,” she said. While she feels grateful for everything that has come her way, she admitted that she deeply misses seeing herself on screen and is eager to come back with a role that has real substance. “I cannot do just any role like a mother saying, ‘Beta aa jao, khana khaa lo’. I would love to do a role which has at least one or two good scenes and suits my age.” Going a step further, Chatterjee expressed her desire to experiment and take on a challenging grey character. “It would be a challenge for me, but there has to be some substance in the role. Actors are like water — they will take any shape you put them in,” she reflected.
