Actor and filmmaker Raghava Lawrence has announced that he will be stepping into politics today on Friday morning. The announcement comes after reports suggested that he may contest from the Trichy East Assembly seat which was earlier won by his close friend and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay.

Raghava Lawrence announces entry into politics

Raghava Lawrence took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to share a long where he explained why he made his mind to enter politics. He also spoke about how he never thought of doing it and only wanted to support that person and work together for society.His post read, “I never imagined entering politics. I never had any intention of earning money or seeking a seat. My only thought was that if someone I believed in and close to me entered politics, I would stand by them and work alongside them to serve society on a larger scale than I was already doing as an individual.”He further added, “Today, circumstances have brought me to a point where I need to enter politics.”He also shared that he would reveal his political plans after getting people’s opinions. In his video message he posted at 10 am, he asked people to share their views about his decision.

Filmmaker asks people for advice and support

Raghava Lawrence said, “Do your duty sincerely, without expecting anything in return. After watching this video, please share your advice and guidance in the comments. If you say “No,” I will not enter politics and will continue my selfless service to society. But if you say “Yes,” I am ready to enter politics. I will reveal when and with who I intend to start this journey with all your blessings.”It is imperative to mention that Lawrence has not yet announced his party details or confirmed whether he will contest from Trichy East.

Raghava Lawrence’s political move linked with Vijay

Interestingly, Raghava Lawrence’s political announcement came when reports suggested that he could contest from the Trichy East Assembly seat. The seat became vacant after Vijay decided to give it up. Vijay had contested from both Trichy East and Perambur in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections held on April 23. He won both seats but later had to choose one seat as a candidate cannot hold two Assembly seats. Vijay decided to continue with Perambur.
