Good news for wildlife lovers! In a recent update, a rare albino hog deer has been reportedly spotted in Kaziranga National Park Assam. The national park is an exciting destination for those wanting to witness iconic one-horned rhinos, wild elephants and majestic tigers in the wild. But the recent sighting of an exceptionally rare albino hog deer has left wildlife lovers, photographers and conservationists excited. Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, took to X and shared the video of the animal. He wrote:“Not every day does one witness something this rare 🦌The sighting of an albino hog deer in @kaziranga_ stands as a symbol of the richness of our wildlife. It highlights our resolve to conserve and ensure that even the rarest species continue to thrive in the forests of Assam.”In the video, we can see a creamy-white hog deer. The footage has since gained massive attention.Why it is an unusual sightSpotting a hog deer is normal but seeing one affected by albinism is a rare sight. Albinism is a rare genetic condition wherein there is no production of melanin, the pigment known for normal skin, eye and fur colour. This creates albino animals which have white or pale coats and light-coloured eyes.And albinism is exceptionally uncommon in the wild and that’s why this sighting matters. Bright white colouring makes animals easier for predators to spot. It also reduces their chances of survival.
