According to an Office Memorandum issued by UIDAI’s Enrolment and Update-I Division, Aadhaar holders will be able to update their email address free of cost through the Aadhaar mobile app from July 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026.
Currently, updating demographic details such as email address in Aadhaar attracts a fee of ₹75. However, UIDAI said the charge is being temporarily removed to encourage more residents to keep their Aadhaar details updated digitally.
“In order to encourage more Aadhaar number holders to update their details in Aadhaar, it has been decided to waive off the charges (i.e. ₹75) for availing service of email address update through the Aadhaar mobile application,” the memorandum stated.
The move comes days after UIDAI extended the free online document update facility on the myAadhaar portal till June 14, 2027. Under that facility, residents can update Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) documents online without paying the standard fee charged at physical Aadhaar centres.
UIDAI has been pushing digital Aadhaar services in recent months through the myAadhaar portal and the Aadhaar mobile application to make demographic updates more accessible and reduce dependence on offline enrolment centres.
How to update Aadhaar documents online
- Users can update their Aadhaar documents by visiting myAadhaar portal and following these steps:
- Log in using Aadhaar number and OTP
- Upload scanned copies of valid PoI and PoA documents
- Submit the request online
- Save the 14-digit Update Request Number (URN) to track the application status
Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identification number issued to residents of India and is widely used as proof of identity and address for government and private sector services.
The latest waiver will apply only to email address updates done through the Aadhaar mobile application during the specified six-month period.
