Shubman Gill overtakes Virat Kohli to claim no. 2 spot in latest ICC ODI rankings | Cricket News

The latest ICC ODI batting rankings saw a notable reshuffle at the top, with India captain Shubman Gill climbing to the No. 2 spot and overtaking teammate Virat Kohli, who has slipped to third place. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma continues to hold the fourth position following another successful ODI series.Gill’s rise in the rankings comes on the back of a stellar performance in India’s recently concluded three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. The right-hander remained in sublime form throughout the series and played a key role in India’s dominant 3-0 clean sweep. He scored 84 in the opening ODI before producing a magnificent 154 in the second match. His performances earned him the Player of the Series award and helped him gain three places in the rankings.Kohli, on the other hand, dropped one position despite continuing to be among the most accomplished ODI batters in world cricket. The former India captain had held the No. 2 spot for a long period, but his absence from the Afghanistan series was due to the right hamstring injury he suffered during the IPL 2026 final between RCB and GT. His absence allowed Gill to move ahead of him. However, Kohli is set to return for the three-match ODI series against England in July, where he will look to reclaim the position while competing alongside Shubman Gill. Rohit Sharma, who currently occupies fourth place, will also be aiming to climb higher in the rankings. Rohit scored 143 runs in the Afghanistan series at a strike rate of over 115, including fluent knocks of 48 and 79 in the final two matches. While Daryl Mitchell continues to reign the top spot of the ODI ranking with 815 points, while Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran’s position has slumped down after disappointing performance against India.India’s ODI Schedule Against England:
