ECI issues notice to K Kavitha over use of 'TRS' in her new party's name: Report | India News

NEW DELHI: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday reportedly issued a notice to K Kavitha over her use of “TRS” for her newly launched party, Telangana Rakshana Sena. The development comes after the poll body reportedly received more than 1,100 complaints over the party’s originally proposed name, Telangana Rashtra Sena. Among those who objected was Kavitha’s former party, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which was previously known as Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).Founded by her father and former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, the BRS argued that Kavitha’s proposed party name was too similar to its former identity as the TRS.The notice comes despite Kavitha accepting the Election Commission’s suggestion to change her party’s name to avoid confusion with the erstwhile TRS.In April, the poll body approved the name Telangana Rakshana Sena for the new political outfit launched by Kavitha. At the party’s launch on April 25, seven months after parting ways with the BRS, she had proposed the name Telangana Rashtra Sena. While the ECI rejected that name, it allowed the revised name to retain the initials “TRS.”Explaining her decision to keep the initials, Kavitha told ANI, “We have worked for this name for our lifetime. Twenty years of our blood and sweat have gone into making TRS a successful party. We have achieved the state of Telangana.”
