Playstation 6 Price: PlayStation 6 will cost 1.3 lakh rupees? Here's what reports say about price hike in raw materials and AI

The world of video gaming faces tremendous risks and concerns from enthusiasts, as the hike in prices is expected. While the prices of current-gen consoles are skyrocketing in the market, reports of a potential spike in retail prices of PS6 due to a significant increase in manufacturing costs are surfacing. Despite the speculations, the official producers have not shared a comment. Here’s a closer look at speculation about an increase in the retail price of the PS6.

PS6 to be expensive due to rise in manufacturing costs

According to a Metro UK report, PlayStation’s next-generation console’s retail price is expected to be approximately 1,000 pounds (1,27,073.80 rupees). The outlet mentioned the reason for the hike could be an increase in manufacturing costs for memory storage, hard drives, and other hardware. The components are now being used in emerging AI data centres instead. This has affected the previous-generation console manufacturing as well. The estimated cost for creation now stands at USD 960, up from USD 760 previously. After assembling the consoles, the shipping charges, taxes, and retail margins exceed the USD 1,100 margin. Despite the rise in recent months, the manufacturing rates continue to increase even now and are unlikely to fall back. PS6 will reportedly release in late 2027, but Sony has not offered any statements as of yet. The wave of price increases has made PS5 the most expensive gaming console in the market.

PlayStation’s sales drop following the rise in price

In the latest report from research firm Circana, hardware manufacturing prices for PlayStation 5 consoles dropped by 43% in May 20206, compared to last year. However, so did the percentage of people buying the consoles. 58% of the unit sales dropped after the increased cost was implemented in early April, as per the aforementioned outlet. As previously mentioned, USD 960 is just for raw materials, without counting the other requirements of marketing, research and development, manufacturing, and more. Traditionally, Sony and Microsoft sold their copies at a loss, but that’s not what they like talking about now. In recent years, there has been a move away from subsidising hardware, hence all the recent price increases, the outlet mentioned. Sony might be eager to release the PlayStation 6 as early as possible. Even if the console launches in late 2027, prices will only increase at every step of the way.
