Govinda: When Govinda opened up about why 'Coolie No. 1' remake didn't work: 'Invested money and lost around Rs 16 crore, was treated badly by some people' | Hindi Movie News

Govinda, now trending on ‘Lock Upp’ after appearances on Kajol-Twinkle’s show and Kapil Sharma’s show, revisits his 2021 interview. He spoke about never bad-mouthing others despite losing Rs 16 crore, advised his children Tina and Yashvardhan to earn their place, and reflected on family life with wife Sunita.

Govinda hasn’t been seen on the big screen in quite some time, but the veteran actor has been making his presence felt elsewhere, from his appearance on Kajol and Twinkle Khanna‘s talk show to his stint on The Kapil Sharma Show, and now as part of the trending reality show ‘Lock Upp’. As his popularity surges once again, we revisit a throwback interview from 2021, where Govinda spoke candidly about his struggles in the industry and why he now views the remake of ‘Coolie No. 1′ as a misstep.

Govinda on never speaking against others

When asked Govinda about the remake of Coolie No 1, which didnt do well at the box office, he shared his thoughts on how he never speaks ill about any one else. In a conversation with ETimes, Govinda said, “You will never see me speaking against others. While others often like to talk about me, I never talk about their work or judge it because I respect everybody’s hard work and money invested. In the last 14-15 years, I have invested money and lost around Rs 16 crore. I was treated badly by some people from the fraternity too. My films didn’t get theatres and they wanted to demolish my career, which didn’t happen.”

Govinda’s advice to his children

When asked about the one piece of advice he gives his children, Tina and Yashvardhan, Govinda said, “They should wait for their time with grace and respect, but, at the same time, continue to do their work. Maybe I can become the person who provides them with a platform, and they may not need any big name to give them the chance. You know, during the lockdown, I remembered complaining to my mother that I was feeding 40 people and was not able to save money and make investments. But she told me just one thing, “I don’t care. Why don’t you ask God?” She advised me to go beyond family and relatives and help as many people as possible. People laugh at my lifestyle; they find it surprising that I don’t have a lot of servants in my house and I cook myself. I feel that aapka bhagya hi aapke virodh ka mool karan hota hai (Your fate is the reason for your adversities). No other person can come in the way of your ability.”

Govinda’s family life with Sunita, Tina and Yashvardhan

Govinda and Sunita have shared nearly four decades of marriage and are parents to two children, Tina and Yashvardhan. Tina made her Bollywood debut with Second Hand Husband in 2015, while Yashvardhan is currently preparing to step into the film industry as an actor.
