NEW DELHI: A violent clash broke out in east Delhi’s Mayur Vihar Phase 3 after a youth was allegedly assaulted for trying to stop a group from eve-teasing a girl, according to TV reports.Several people, including a 10-year-old child, were injured in the violence. The incident took place on Monday, following which a heavy security deployment was made in the area to prevent any further escalation.AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar claimed that the violence left 10 to 15 people seriously injured in Pockets 1 and 2 of Mayur Vihar Phase 3. He alleged that the area was gripped by fear following the incident.“In Mayur Vihar Phase-3, Pockets 1 and 2, 10–15 people were seriously injured due to the terror unleashed by miscreants. The entire area is gripped by an atmosphere of fear and insecurity. I myself reached the spot at night and spoke with the local residents. There is immense anger and fear among the people,” Kumar said in a tweet.Police said a heavy force was deployed to bring the situation under control, and the area is now under close watch. Teams have been formed to identify and apprehend those involved in the clash.Officials said the exact sequence of events, including the circumstances that led to the violence and the role of those involved, is being verified. Further investigation is underway.
