Suchitra Krishnamoorthi says ICICI Lombard rejected hospitalisation claim; insurer responds

Actor Suchitra Krishnamoorthi has raised concerns over the rejection of a health insurance claim by ICICI Lombard General Insurance, saying that the insurer declined to cover expenses related to a previous hospitalisation for ulcers.

In a post on X on July 16, Krishnamoorthi said she had been hospitalised when her ulcers worsened and claimed that ICICI Lombard refused to cover the hospitalisation costs.

According to the actor, the insurer cited non-disclosure of ulcers at the time of purchasing the policy.

Krishnamoorthi, however, said she did not have ulcers when she bought the policy and alleged that she was later asked to provide medical certificates confirming that she did not suffer from the condition at the time the policy was issued.

Responding to the post on X, ICICI Lombard said it had already responded to the matter earlier and had not received any new claim request from Krishnamoorthi.

“Dear Suchitra, we have already provided a response regarding the matter raised earlier. As of now, we have not received any new claim request from your end. In case you have submitted a new claim, we request you to kindly share the relevant details via DM so that we may verify,” the insurer said.

In a statement to CNBC-TV18, ICICI Lombard said, “Every claim is assessed objectively on individual merits and in accordance with the applicable policy terms and regulatory guidelines. We have robust claims assessment and grievance redressal processes in place to ensure fairness, consistency, and the timely resolution of customer concerns.”

The insurer did not comment on the specific details of the claim referred to by Krishnamoorthi.
