IL&FS resolves over ₹57,500 crore worth of debt, nearing end of clean-up

Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services (IL&FS) has filed its latest status update with the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), stating that the overall resolution value of the group has crossed ₹57,500 crore as of June 30, 2026.

The overall resolution value stood at ₹57,556 crore, while total debt discharged to creditors reached ₹50,387 crore. The resolution value represents over 94% of the group’s aggregate debt resolution target of ₹61,000 crore, while the debt discharged accounts for more than 83% of the target.

Of the ₹50,387 crore debt discharged, ₹26,027 crore came through asset monetisation, concession termination or settlement, and transfer of assets to the InvIT. Another ₹16,013 crore was distributed to external financial creditors through interim cash distributions and InvIT units, while ₹8,347 crore was discharged through auto-debits, principal servicing by Green entities and release of non-fund-based limits.

Including cash and InvIT units held within the group, the overall debt resolution value has reached ₹57,556 crore.

IL&FS said resolution has been completed for 205 of the original 302 entities. Including entities whose resolution applications have either been filed with or approved by courts, 240 entities have reached an advanced or concluded stage of resolution.

The group said only 41 entities now require continued moratorium protection, compared with the original 302 entities covered under the resolution framework. A total of 128 entities have already been released from the moratorium.

As of June 30, 2026, cash balances across the group stood at ₹7,259 crore. Of this, ₹1,551 crore is available for interim or final distribution, ₹1,925 crore has been earmarked for going-concern expenses, contingent liabilities and externally routed claims, while ₹3,783 crore is held in entities undergoing resolution. The group also holds InvIT units worth ₹326 crore following the transfer of special purpose vehicles to the InvIT.

Among key transaction updates, IL&FS said the sale of Chenani Nashri Tunnelway Limited (CNTL) to Cube Highways was completed in November 2025, resulting in the resolution of ₹4,112 crore of debt.
