Iran’s IRGC claims it has ‘destroyed’ Amazon’s central data hub in Bahrain

Amazon

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that its Aerospace Force launched a cruise missile attack targeting and “destroying” Amazon’s central data infrastructure in Bahrain. According to a report by Euro News, Tehran claimed that the attack has been carried out in retaliation for recent US strikes on civilian infrastructure in Iran. Citing a statement released by the IRGC’s public relations office and carried by Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency, the report says that the missile barrage also targeted “US air defense systems and radar installations in the Bahraini areas of Muharraq and Riffa.”The reported strikes come as direct military confrontations between Iran and the US enter their 10th consecutive day, despite ongoing diplomatic talks and exchanges of messages between the two nations, the report said. The military flare-up follows threats from US President Donald Trump, who vowed to make Iran pay “many times over” following the recent deaths of three US service members in Jordan and Iraq.

‘Retaliation over Darkhovin nuclear site

In its statement, the IRGC framed the strike on Amazon’s Bahrain data facilities as a direct response to “US military aggression against under-construction, civilian facilities in Darkhovin.”Meanwhile, Iran’s Permanent Mission to the International Organisations in Vienna issued an urgent statement calling on both the United Nations Security Council and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to formally condemn the US attack on the Darkhovin nuclear power plant site.

Amazon and Oracle data centres damaged

Earlier this year, Amazon’s cloud operations in Bahrain suffered damages after an Iranian strike. According to a report by Financial Times, the Gulf state’s interior ministry said civil defence forces were “extinguishing a fire in a facility of a company as a result of the Iranian aggression,” without naming Amazon directly.IRGC reportedly also claimed that it struck a data center of American tech company Oracle in Dubai. According to a report in AlJazeera, IRC’s navy command claims it launched an attack on a data center belonging to the US technology firm Oracle in Dubai. IRGC had threatened to target US companies operating in the region. These include Microsoft, Apple, Google and Meta.
