According to provisional exchange data, FIIs purchased equities worth ₹1,650.16 crore on a net basis during the session. In contrast, DIIs recorded a net outflow of ₹656.88 crore, the first such instance after nine consecutive trading sessions of net purchases.
Provisional data showed FIIs bought equities worth ₹16,327.88 crore and sold shares worth ₹14,677.72 crore, resulting in a net inflow of ₹1,650.16 crore.
DIIs, meanwhile, purchased equities worth ₹14,638.54 crore and sold ₹15,295.42 crore, leading to a provisional net outflow of ₹656.88 crore.
However, the equity benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty ended mixed after a range-bound trading session on Tuesday (July 21), as losses in index heavyweights Reliance Industries and HDFC Bank offset gains across several broader market pockets.
The BSE Sensex fell 238 points to close at 77,470, while the Nifty 50 declined 51 points to settle at 24,188. The Nifty Bank index slipped 110 points to 57,835.
In contrast, the broader market outperformed the headline indices, with the Nifty Midcap Index rising 186 points to 62,988, keeping market breadth tilted in favour of advancing stocks. The Nifty Bank index slipped 110 points to end at 57,835.
Heavyweights Reliance Industries and HDFC Bank were the biggest drags on the Nifty. Meanwhile, Shriram Finance emerged as the top Nifty gainer as NBFC stocks attracted buying amid moves in the rupee and bond yields.
Auto stocks rallied after strong June-quarter earnings from TVS Motor and Bajaj Auto. Maruti Suzuki also gained around 1% after announcing a price increase of up to ₹30,000 across select models.
Among individual stocks, M&M Financial Services surged more than 8% after reporting strong first-quarter results, while Data Patterns climbed 7% after securing a ₹1,300-crore order from Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL). IndusInd Bank extended its winning streak, rising up to 3% ahead of its quarterly earnings.
Gold financiers also remained in focus, with Manappuram Finance and Muthoot Finance gaining 3–4%. MTAR Technologies recovered from its lower circuit to end the session flat.
