Samsung launches Galaxy Card in US: How the tech giant’s first credit card works

Samsung Electronics has entered the US credit card market with the launch of Samsung Galaxy Card, a co-branded credit card issued by Barclays US Consumer Bank and operating on the Visa network.

The card offers cashback rewards on purchases, including higher rewards for select Samsung transactions. It is integrated with Samsung Wallet, allowing users to manage the card and rewards through the company’s digital wallet platform.

The launch marks Samsung’s entry into financial services as technology companies explore payments and consumer finance offerings alongside their core businesses.

What is Samsung Galaxy Card?

Samsung Galaxy Card is a credit card linked with Samsung Wallet, where users can apply for the card, manage their account, view spending activity and redeem rewards.

The card will be available as a virtual card within Samsung Wallet and as a physical metal card. Users will also be able to store it alongside other compatible cards, IDs, passes and digital keys supported by Samsung Wallet.

Applications for the card will be available online, including through Samsung’s US retail channels.

What are the cashback benefits?

The card offers cashback rewards across different categories:

  • 5% cashback on eligible purchases made directly with Samsung
  • 3% cashback on purchases made through Samsung Wallet
  • 2% cashback on select streaming services, including Netflix, Disney+ and Spotify
  • 1% cashback on other eligible purchases

New cardholders can receive up to $200 in bonus cash rewards after spending $2,000 within the first 90 days of account opening, subject to applicable terms.

The card also includes a discount on Samsung VIP Advantage membership.

Why has Samsung launched a credit card?

The move comes as technology companies expand into financial services through digital wallets, payment products and loyalty programmes.

For companies with large device ecosystems, financial products can create additional customer engagement opportunities by connecting payments with existing digital platforms.

Samsung’s Galaxy Card is designed to link its payment services with Samsung Wallet and its broader consumer ecosystem.

How does the Samsung-Barclays-Visa partnership work?

Samsung is responsible for the technology platform and Samsung Wallet integration, while Barclays US Consumer Bank issues the credit card and manages the lending relationship.

Visa provides the payment network infrastructure for transactions.

The partnership combines Samsung’s consumer technology platform with Barclays’ credit card operations and Visa’s payments network.

What does the launch indicate about digital payments?

The launch reflects the growing overlap between technology, payments and financial services.

Companies are using digital wallets and payment products to offer additional services, improve customer retention and compete in the broader financial technology space.

What should consumers consider?

Consumers should compare the card’s cashback rates, fees, interest charges, eligibility requirements and spending conditions before applying.

Samsung Galaxy Card is currently available only in the US, and the company has not announced plans for launches in other markets.
