In a statement issued on Thursday, the conglomerate said it is not evaluating any proposal to enter the airline business, dismissing recent media reports and market speculation.
“The reports are entirely baseless and factually incorrect. The Company is not evaluating any proposal to enter the airline business,” the group said.
The clarification comes after a Reuters report said billionaire Gautam Adani’s conglomerate was considering launching a new airline, citing people familiar with the matter. According to the report, the discussions were at an early stage and no final decision had been taken.
Reuters had also reported that the move, if pursued, could intensify competition in India’s aviation market, currently dominated by IndiGo and Air India. The report said the Adani Group, which operates eight airports across the country and has an $11-billion airport expansion plan, was internally evaluating the idea despite previously ruling out an entry into aviation.
The report further claimed that the Indian government had informally encouraged several business groups, including Adani, to explore launching an airline following operational challenges faced by existing carriers. However, Reuters noted that the proposal remained under consideration and there was no timeline for a decision.
Notably, the Adani Group had publicly ruled out such plans earlier as well.
In an exclusive interview with CNBC-TV18 in December 2025, ahead of the launch of Navi Mumbai International Airport, Adani Group Director Jeet Adani said the airline business does not fit the group’s investment philosophy.
“Structurally, the airline industry is not something that we see fitting our capital discipline. We’re very used to investing in high-margin businesses and sweating assets. Airlines are the complete opposite from a unit economics point of view. It doesn’t make sense for us – not today and not even in the future,” Jeet Adani had said.
The latest clarification reiterates the group’s position that it has no plans to enter the airline business, despite media speculation.
