Nathan Fillion talks about how he used ‘The Rookie’ to his advantage

On Monday, July 27, while attending the San Diego Comic Con along with his castmates, Nathan Fillion opened up about his encounter with the police and how he used his fame from the show to get out of a speeding ticket. PEOPLE reported that while talking about the hilarious moment, he shared that he got pulled over for speeding some time back, and the officer had recognized him. He added, “I got pulled over once, and the officer looked at my ID and said, ‘I recognize you’re an actor.’ I said, ‘Yes… actually, I’m pretty good.’”However, he ended up mistaking Fillion for Jason Bateman, who is best known for his work in ‘Arrested Development’ and ‘Ozark’. Fillion added, “He said, ‘If you give my wife an autograph, I’ll let you off with a warning. I said, ‘Great.’ He handed me his phone. I asked, ‘What’s your wife’s name?’ He said, ‘Lily.’ So I wrote, ‘To Lily…’ Then I heard him say, ‘Hey honey, I’m getting you an autograph, it’s Jason Bateman.’”The actor then continued and shared that he could not correct the officer and went along with it. “And I signed it… ‘All my love, Jason Bateman,’ ” he said, making everyone laugh at the hilarious interaction. Fillion had earlier shared the story in 2021 while he had appeared on ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ as a guest.

He shared during the Comic-Con panel that, “I recently got pulled over because of my tinted windows, and the officer recognized me from The Rookie. He let me go.” Lisseth Chavez, however, joked that she was also unfortunately pulled over by an officer; she did not share her co-workers’ luck and ended up getting written up for a speeding offence.‘The Rookie’ just recently aired their finale for season 8, and has already started working on filming season 9, which is expected to premiere in 2027.
