Vedanta Power Q1 Results: Revenue dips 3%, exceptional loss pushes company into loss


Vedanta Power Ltd on Wednesday (July 29) reported a net loss of ₹423 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2026, compared with a profit of ₹139 crore in the previous quarter, impacted by a ₹487 crore exceptional loss.

However, the newly-listed company had posted a net profit of ₹75 crore in the year-ago period.

The reported revenue of ₹2,607 crore in the first quarter of FY27, compared with ₹2,684 crore in the previous quarter, a decline of 2.9% quarter-on-quarter. Revenue increased 31% year-on-year during the quarter.

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) stood at ₹291 crore for the quarter, compared with ₹594 crore in the previous quarter, declining 51% quarter-on-quarter. EBITDA margin stood at 11.16%, compared with 22.13% in the previous quarter.

Power sales increased 38% year-on-year to 5,224 million units, driven by higher generation across the company’s key assets. The company said 74% of its power sales are secured under long-term and medium-term power purchase agreements (PPAs), including contracts in Punjab, Odisha, a 500 megawatt contract with Tamil Nadu and a recently secured 100 megawatt contract with Kerala.

Vedanta Power’s Meenakshi Energy Limited reported its highest-ever quarterly EBITDA of ₹112 crore, up 20% quarter-on-quarter. Power sold by the unit stood at 1,350 million units, an increase of 16% quarter-on-quarter. The company said Meenakshi Energy is transitioning from imported coal to 100% domestic coal, with the process underway.

Vedanta Power’s Talwandi Sabo Thermal Plant (TSTP) reported an increase in Plant Availability Factor (PAF) to 86% from 77%. The plant more than doubled ash revenues year-on-year by improving sales realisation and recorded the highest-ever biomass co-firing in Punjab at nearly 8%. The company said biomass co-firing helped avoid 1.37 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

Vedanta Power also implemented an Information Technology Management System (ITMS), which reduced truck turnaround time by up to 50%, according to the company.

The company maintained a cash equivalent position of ₹1,130 crore and secured 85% long-term coal security during the quarter. Shares of Vedanta Power Ltd ended at ₹35.31, down by ₹0.35, or 0.98%, on the BSE.
