SBI Card, Google Pay launch co-branded credit card with UPI-linked RuPay option

SBI Card and Google Pay have launched a co-branded credit card, Google Pay Flex SBI Card, offering customers reward points, EMI conversion options and digital account management through the Google Pay app.

The card is available on both RuPay and Visa payment networks. The RuPay variant can be linked with UPI, allowing users to make payments at UPI-enabled merchants. Both variants can be tokenised on Google Pay for contactless payments.

Under the rewards programme, cardholders can earn Stars on eligible spends, which can be redeemed instantly while making UPI payments through the Google Pay app or against select vouchers. One Star is equivalent to ₹1, according to the companies.

Customers can earn up to 8 Stars for every cumulative ₹500 spent after meeting certain monthly spending milestones. The card offers up to 18,000 Stars annually on everyday spends, including categories such as groceries, bill payments, travel bookings, utility payments and shopping.

The card comes with a joining and annual renewal fee of ₹499 plus applicable taxes. The renewal fee can be reversed if the cardholder achieves annual spends of ₹1 lakh in the previous year.

The card also allows users to convert their latest outstanding credit card bill into EMIs through the Google Pay app.

The launch comes as banks and fintech companies continue to expand credit card offerings by integrating them with digital payment platforms, including UPI. SBI Card had over 22.6 million cards-in-force, as per the company.Salila Pande, MD and CEO of SBI Card, said the partnership aims to combine rewards, flexibility and digital convenience for customers. Google Pay’s Senior Director Sharath Bulusu said the card is designed to make credit access more integrated with everyday digital payments.
