Google Pay's new Gemini AI assistant: How it helps analyse spending, explain SIPs and taxes

Google Pay has launched a new Gemini-powered conversational AI feature called “Ask Google Pay”, allowing users to get personalised insights on their spending and understand financial concepts directly within the payments app.

The feature, which is being rolled out as an opt-in experience, enables users to ask questions about their money, including queries related to spending patterns, savings, credit scores and financial products.

Google said Ask Google Pay can analyse users’ transaction history and provide insights to help them understand their expenses better. Users can also seek information on topics such as mutual funds, SIPs, compounding interest and differences between tax regimes.

The AI assistant can also help users explore tailored offers, such as identifying suitable credit card options for specific needs like travel expenses.

The feature supports text and voice-based queries and is available in 10 Indian languages, Google said.

Google Pay said the tool is designed to provide financial information and insights for educational purposes, while keeping users’ financial data under their control.

The launch comes as digital payments platforms integrate artificial intelligence tools to offer personalised financial services beyond transactions. With AI-powered features, payment apps are looking to help users track expenses, make informed financial decisions and access relevant financial products.Google has also expanded its credit offerings with the launch of the Google Pay Flex SBI Card, a co-branded credit card developed with SBI Card. The company said the new AI feature and credit card launch are part of its efforts to expand everyday financial tools within Google Pay.
