Astra Microwave shares hit record high after ₹2,205 crore HAL order for Uttam Radar


Shares of Astra Microwave Products surged as much as 13.6% on Thursday, July 30, to hit a record high of ₹1,960, after the defence electronics company secured a ₹2,205.2 crore order from Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) for the Uttam Radar programme.

This is also the biggest single-day gain for the stock since July 2022.

The order pertains to the procurement of 122 Anti-Aircraft Auxiliary Units (AAAU) and 121 Interface Frames for the indigenous Uttam Radar programme and is scheduled to be executed over the next five years.

The stock has now advanced more than 96% so far in 2026 and has delivered over 101% returns in the last 12 months.

The Uttam Radar is an indigenous Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) fighter radar developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for Indian Air Force fighter aircraft, including the HAL Tejas Mk1A.

Astra Microwave is one of the key industry partners in the programme and manufactures the Active Antenna Array Unit (AAAU), which forms the core antenna assembly of the AESA radar.

Management outlook

During its March-quarter earnings call, the company guided for 15%-20% revenue growth in FY27, targeting revenue of ₹1,300 crore – ₹1,400 crore.

The Management also said it expects a strong order pipeline of over ₹1,600 crore during FY27 and aims to nearly triple its turnover over the next 4.5 to 5.5 years, supported by major defence programmes including Uttam Radar, QRSAM and Su-30 upgrades.

The company had disclosed on Wednesday that the HAL contract is valued at ₹2,205.23 crore, inclusive of applicable taxes and GST, and will be executed over a period of five years.

HAL order book swells

The latest contract comes a few months after another order from Hindustan Aeronautics.

On April 1, 2026, Astra Microwave’s joint venture, Astra Rafael Comsys Pvt. Ltd. (ARC), received a ₹250.58 crore order from HAL’s Bengaluru division for the supply of Software Defined Radio (SDR) systems. The order is scheduled to be executed over 18 months.

ARC develops military communication systems and software-defined radios for defence applications.

Shares of Astra Microwave are now trading 11.4% higher on Friday at ₹1,922. The stock is up 130% from the 52-week low, which it fell to earlier this year.
