According to the Delhi government, 1,47,215 women had completed registration, while 10,286 applications had been formally submitted on the portal as of 10 pm on Sunday (August 2).
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched the online registration portal on August 1 for the flagship welfare scheme, under which eligible women will receive financial assistance of ₹2,500 every month.
How the money will be paid
Unlike a direct cash transfer, the monthly assistance will be split into two parts.
Under the scheme guidelines, ₹1,000 will be credited directly to the beneficiary every month, while the remaining ₹1,500 will be placed in a fixed deposit with a three-year lock-in period. The government says the structure is intended to provide both immediate financial support and long-term savings.
The Delhi government has earmarked ₹5,100 crore for the scheme in the current financial year and expects more than 17 lakh women to benefit.
Who is eligible?
Women can apply if they:
- Are between 21 and 60 years of age.
- Have an annual family income of up to ₹2.5 lakh.
- Meet the other eligibility conditions prescribed under the scheme.
Who cannot apply?The scheme excludes:
- Women already receiving benefits under any other financial assistance scheme or pension.
- Income taxpayers.
- Government employees and families with any member in a government job.
- Women with more than three living children.
- Families consuming more than 2,400 units of electricity annually.
- Households owning a four-wheeler.
- Women with criminal antecedents.
Applicants must also obtain a recommendation from the MP or MLA of their constituency while applying.Verification before first payout
The government has said applications will undergo verification before benefits are released. It aims to credit the first instalment by Raksha Bandhan after completing the verification process.
The BJP had promised the scheme during the Delhi Assembly election campaign, and the Delhi Cabinet approved it earlier this week before the portal was opened for registrations.
