Here’s what Tata Technologies said in its clarification with regards to the Honda contract award

Tata Technologies Q1 profit rises 6% as revenue jumps 34%, expects double-digit revenue rise this year

Shares of Tata Technologies surged as much as 9.7% on Friday, August 7, after the engineering services company responded to media reports that Honda Motor Co. had outsourced a new vehicle development programme to the company.

With this move, the stock has now gained 14.5% over the last two sessions, having gained 6.5% on Thursday as well.

In an exchange filing, Tata Technologies said it had previously disclosed the award of a vehicle development programme from a Japanese original equipment manufacturer (OEM) as part of its Q4 FY26 earnings release in May and had reiterated the same in its Q1 FY27 earnings release in July.

The company said the media report did not constitute undisclosed information and therefore did not trigger any fresh disclosure requirements under SEBI regulations.

Tata Tech’s clarification came after the exchanges sought the company’s response to a media report stating that Honda had outsourced a new vehicle programme to Tata Technologies to help reduce development costs.

Bloomberg had reported earlier this week, citing people familiar with the matter, that Honda had entrusted Tata Technologies with developing an end-to-end vehicle platform that could underpin multiple models, including conventional, hybrid and electric vehicles.

Without naming Honda, Tata Technologies said engineering and product development programmes from global OEMs form part of its ordinary course of business and that the company regularly announces significant client engagements and deal wins through its periodic earnings communications.

The company added that it is bound by confidentiality obligations and contractual commitments with customers, and therefore cannot disclose or comment on the identity of customers unless specifically permitted under the relevant contractual arrangements.

Bloomberg had also reported that Tata Technologies Chief Executive Officer Warren Harris told analysts in July that the company was making progress on “a full vehicle development program with a leading Japanese automotive OEM.”

The report said the engagement would mark the first time Honda had outsourced the development of an entirely new vehicle platform to an Indian engineering services firm, as the Japanese automaker looks to accelerate development and lower costs.
