The latest contribution, along with earlier contributions, fulfils the ₹500 crore personal pledge made by Anand Mahindra and his family in March 2024.
The endowment will support the university’s educational and charitable objectives, including infrastructure development, scholarships, research grants, student aid and academic operations.
Mahindra University (MU) has received 6,50,270 equity shares of Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), representing 0.05% of the company’s total voting share capital. Mahindra Educational Investments (MEI) has received a further 2,16,757 M&M shares, equivalent to 0.02% of the company’s total voting share capital.
In aggregate, the contribution comprises 8,67,027 M&M equity shares, representing 0.07% of the company’s total voting share capital. The contribution has been made as an endowment without consideration, and no proceeds will accrue to Anuradha Mahindra or Anand Mahindra in connection with the contribution.
In a personal note on the occasion, Anuradha and Anand Mahindra said, “Education has always been a core value in our family. We have long believed that real legacy lies in what one gives back to society and in the opportunities one creates for the next generation. That belief led us to make our pledge to Mahindra University in March 2024.”They added that since then, the University has come a long way.
“It has moved into new disciplines, brought together students and faculty from India and beyond, and built partnerships with leading universities around the world. It is steadily building the foundations of an institution intended to endure,’ they noted.
Mahindra University was established in Hyderabad in May 2020. The university offers more than 50 programmes across seven schools and eight centres at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels.
