Sources said the meetings were aimed at briefing the government on the current situation at the Tata group, including Chandrasekaran’s decision to step down as chairman. The meetings were first reported by The Financial Express.
Noel Tata’s Delhi visit coincided with the Parsi New Year weekend. He had earlier met Home Minister Amit Shah in October 2025 and February 2026 over the future of Air India and other matters concerning the group.
The meetings come as Tata Sons faces an impending leadership transition, with Chandrasekaran’s term as chairman set to end on February 20, 2027. Chandrasekaran informed the board on August 12 that he would not seek reappointment and asked the board to decide on succession soon.
Separately, CNBC-TV18 reported earlier on Monday that the Tata Sons annual general meeting scheduled for August 18 is likely to be adjourned for want of quorum, as a regulatory freeze on the Sir Ratan Tata Trust has prevented the joint nomination required under Article 86 of Tata Sons’ Articles of Association.
The AGM requires at least five members to be personally present, including an authorised representative jointly nominated by the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Sir Ratan Tata Trust. That nomination has not been made, as the Sir Ratan Tata Trust remains restrained from holding meetings or taking decisions.
The AGM agenda includes the FY26 accounts, dividend on ordinary shares, chairman’s remuneration and Chandrasekaran’s reappointment as a director retiring by rotation.
