AICTE academic calendar 2026-27 revised: Check new admission dates, class start date and September 14 deadline

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has revised the academic calendar for the 2026-27 session, setting out fresh timelines for admissions and commencement of classes across approved technical and management institutions. The revised schedule also covers institutes offering executive management programmes such as Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) and Post Graduate Certificate in Management (PGCM).According to the circular issued by AICTE on August 13, classes for first-year students enrolled in technical courses began on August 17. Students admitted to AICTE-approved institutions for the current academic session should take note of the revised deadlines, particularly those linked to vacant seats and lateral entry admissions.

AICTE revised academic calendar 2026-27: Key dates

The revised schedule puts September 14 as an important deadline for institutions and students.

Academic activity Revised date
Commencement of classes for first-year technical students August 17, 2026
Last date for admission against notified vacant seats September 14, 2026
Last date for newly admitted students to take lateral entry admission to second year September 14, 2026

The revised dates are applicable to eligible students pursuing technical education as well as those admitted to management programmes covered under the AICTE framework.

September 14 becomes the crucial admission deadline

Students who are yet to secure admission against officially notified vacant seats will have to complete the process by September 14. Institutions will also have to adhere to the revised timeline while processing such admissions. The same date applies to newly admitted candidates seeking lateral entry into the second year of eligible courses. Students considering lateral entry should therefore verify the eligibility conditions and admission procedure prescribed by the concerned institution before proceeding.

PGDM, PGCM students also covered

The revised academic calendar is not restricted to conventional technical degree courses. AICTE has also extended its applicability to management institutions offering programmes such as PGDM and PGCM.This makes the revised schedule relevant to a wider pool of students, particularly those entering AICTE-approved management institutions during the 2026-27 academic session.

AICTE’s role in technical and management education

AICTE is the statutory body responsible for coordinated planning and development of technical education in India. It also lays down norms and standards for institutions and courses under its regulatory framework.Thousands of institutions across the country operate with AICTE approval and offer programmes in engineering, technology, management and other areas covered by the council. Admissions to these institutions may be conducted through national-level or state-level entrance examinations, depending on the course and institution.

Students should track institution-level updates

The new timeline of the AICTE is the general regulatory one, but candidates must not take only the council’s timeline into consideration. Institutions can release individual notices specifying the process of admission, the position of vacancies, and the process of document verification.Candidates who have been admitted must get in touch with their respective institution regarding their schedule for admission and classes. Candidates looking for admissions based on vacancies or lateral admission must make arrangements by September 14 to stay within the revised schedule.Considering that the academic session for the first year has begun from August 17, the revised schedule has made the process more time-bound for institutions and candidates.
