Anupama Parameswaran has opened up about a difficult phase in her personal life and revealed how prolonged stress affected her physical and mental health. The actress spoke about the experience while appearing on the latest interview, where she discussed the impact of what she described as narcissistic abuse during a two-year relationship with an actor.
Anupama Parameswaran reveals how anxiety affected her body
Speaking on a chat with I AM With Dhanya Varma, the actress said the constant anxiety led to several health problems she had never faced earlier. Recalling the period, Anupama said, “I was a happy child. I was a normal child. I would just chill in my life. None of this had happened before.” She explained that panic attacks and anxiety attacks became frequent and often left her unable to control her body. “Our legs would suddenly start to shiver, our hands would start shaking, and we couldn’t even control it,” she said.She also recalled experiencing blackouts and struggling to eat because conversations during the relationship would trigger severe anxiety. “Whatever I ate, some conversation would happen, it would trigger my anxiety, and I would throw up,” she added.
Anupama says eye problem began affecting her film shoots
One of the health issues that directly affected Anupama’s professional life involved her right eye. She said the problem became noticeable during film shoots and sometimes forced the team to stop filming. “My right eye would start glitching. You have to stop shooting because my eyes would start glitching. You can’t even stop it,” the actress recalled.She also revealed that her lacrimal gland, which produces tears, became swollen and moved out of its normal position. According to Anupama, the condition developed after she spent long hours crying every night while still having to report for shoots the following day.
Anupama Parameswaran reveals surgery and lasting impact
Anupama Parameswaran further recalled undergoing surgery after the condition became serious. “All of a sudden, my lacrimal gland came down. It was swollen, and I had to get surgery done,” she said. She pointed to her appearance during the promotions of ‘Paradha’ as an example of the visible swelling. “If you see the promotions of ‘Paradha,’ you can see that one side of my eye was very swollen. The lacrimal gland itself had fallen down completely, and then they had to stitch it back,” she explained.Beyond the eye issue, the actress said she continues to carry physical and emotional scars from that period. “There are wounds in my body, not by physical abuse, not directly by someone punching, but wounds and issues in my body that can never be healed, physical and mental ones, for whatever I went through,” she said.
