FSSAI issued the revocation order on August 20 following its engagement with United Spirits, the company said in an exchange filing.
The July 29 order related to identified whisky products manufactured at the third-party unit in Madhya Pradesh. FSSAI had held that the product labels were not in conformity with provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
United Spirits received the July 29 order on August 4 at around 11 am IST. The company said the delay in disclosure was due to the time required to verify facts and information with multiple internal stakeholders.
United Spirits had said there were no material operational or financial implications arising from the July 29 order and that it was closely monitoring the matter.
The latest revocation order also has no material operational or financial impact on the company, United Spirits said.
Separate Baramati matter
Separately, FSSAI also revoked its June 29, 2026 order relating to the sale of a product manufactured at United Spirits’ Baramati facility in Maharashtra.
The regulator issued the revocation order on August 17, which was received by a company officer on August 18, according to the company.
The June 29 order had prompted United Spirits to file a writ petition before the Bombay High Court on August 1. The company challenged FSSAI’s view that certain product labels were not compliant with provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act.United Spirits said, based on legal advice, that the declarations on the labels in question complied with the applicable legal and regulatory framework in India and were consistent with long-standing industry practice.
The company had also said the issue was being taken up with FSSAI by industry associations, including the Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies (CIABC) and the International Spirits & Wines Association of India (ISWAI), as an industry-wide concern.
With the revocation of the June 29 order, the regulatory order that formed the basis of United Spirits’ legal challenge has been withdrawn. The company said the development would have no material operational or financial impact on its business.
