NEW DELHI: BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Saturday held his first meeting with the party’s newly appointed national office-bearers to discuss preparations for upcoming assembly elections and grassroots outreach, party sources said.The meeting at the BJP headquarters focused on poll preparations, grassroots mobilisation and communicating government initiatives to the public, according to news agency PTI. It was also the first introductory meeting of the newly constituted national team, formally marking the beginning of their new tenure as BJP office-bearers.All six stanzas of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ were recited ahead of the BJP meeting, according to news agency ANI.More meetings are scheduled later in the day, with BJP state presidents, state in-charges and chief ministers of BJP-ruled states expected to attend. Three separate meetings are scheduled at the BJP headquarters and its extended office, with the agenda including the introduction of new office-bearers, discussions on nationwide programmes to mark 25 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in public life and other organisational issues, BJP sources told ANI.
BJP unveils new 65-member national team
The meeting comes days after the BJP announced its new national team under Nabin. The team comprises 65 office-bearers, including 51 new faces.Among the key appointments, former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia and former RSS functionary Ram Madhav have been named national vice presidents. Former Union minister Smriti Irani has been appointed one of the party’s eight national general secretaries.B L Santhosh has been retained as national general secretary (organisation), while Vinod Tawde and Sunil Bansal have also retained their positions as general secretaries.The general secretary team also includes Biplab Kumar Deb, Gajendra Patel, Satish Poonia, Harish Dwivedi and Sanjay Bhatia.

Piyush Goyal returns as BJP treasurer
Union minister Piyush Goyal has once again been appointed the BJP’s national treasurer. He had held the post before becoming a minister in the first Narendra Modi government in May 2014.The party has also appointed RS MP Tarun Chugh as central office in-charge. Hemang Joshi of Gujarat has been named Yuva Morcha president, while Roop Kumari Choudhary of Chhattisgarh will oversee the Mahila Morcha.BJP MP Anil Baluni will continue as media convenor, with Ashish Usha Agrawal, Pradeep Bhandari and Siddharth Yadav appointed as co-convenors. Deepak Mhaskey of Chhattisgarh has been named social media convenor.The organisational reshuffle is the BJP’s first of this scale since 2015, when Amit Shah was party president. The changes have also fuelled speculation about a possible Cabinet reshuffle.
