A 28-year-old man from Punjab, Gurudeep Singh, was shot dead in New York while delivering pizza.According to local reports, Gurdeep from Jabbowal village in Punjab’s Kapurthala district, was in the Richmond Street area of New York when an unidentified armed person allegedly opened fire during a suspected robbery attempt.Gurdeep moved to the US about 13 years ago, after taking a loan to fund his journey, according to his family. His father, Pyara Lal, said his son faced financial difficulties after arriving in the country but continued working to support his family.Lal recalled the debt Gurdeep had taken on before leaving India and said his son had worked long hours in the US in the hope of building a more secure future for his family.News of the shooting has left Gurdeep’s family and residents of Jabbowal in shock. He was unmarried and is survived by his father and brother, who work as DJs to support the family.The family has appealed to the Punjab and Indian governments to help arrange the repatriation of Gurdeep’s body. They have also urged US authorities to identify and arrest those responsible for the shooting and ensure that they face legal action.
