NEW DELHI: Ahead of PM Narendra Modi’s upcoming engagements with President Xi Jinping, NSA Ajit Doval will travel to China Monday for the 25th round of Special Representatives dialogue on the boundary question. Doval and his counterpart Wang Yi will co-chair the meeting Tuesday.Modi and Xi will meet on the margins of SCO summit on Aug 31-Sept 1, before the PM hosts Xi for the Brics summit next month. Xi is expected to arrive in India on Sept 12 and have a bilateral meeting with Modi before the summit.

Tuesday’s meeting is expected to focus on de-escalation, delimitation and boundary affairs, as the Indian side underlines the importance of maintaining peace and tranquillity in the border areas to promote overall development of the Sino-Indian relationship. Both sides are also looking to establish a working group to advance effective border management for peacein border areas.Ahead of Doval-Wang talks in Beijing, EAM S Jaishankar Saturday reiterated that peace and tranquillity along the border areas are a prerequisite for good relations with China.However, he also underlined the significance of engagement with Beijing for India’s modernisation, saying that both sides have an interest in a stable relationship.
