New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson left Monday’s practice early after slipping on the team’s wet and slippery practice surface, creating fresh concerns about his availability for Week 1, which is now just over two weeks away.
What happened to TreVeyon Henderson?
NFL insider Mike Kadlick reported that Henderson departed the session because of an apparent right leg or ankle injury.
Patriots insider Phil Perry provided further details, saying Henderson appeared to hurt himself during an 11-on-11 rushing play after losing his footing on the turf. The issue appeared to involve his right foot or ankle.
Perry also pointed out that Henderson was not the only player struggling with the conditions, as several Patriots players had difficulty maintaining their footing during the practice.
“Slippery turf today. Multiple players losing their footing throughout the practice. In particular, made the OL/DL 1v1 period a challenge,” Perry tweeted.
No official update on Henderson
As of Monday afternoon, the Patriots had not released any official information about the severity of TreVeyon Henderson’s latest injury.
The development came only hours after Boston Herald reporter Andrew Callahan noted on X that Henderson had returned to Patriots practice after missing Saturday night’s session.
It remains unclear why Henderson was absent from Saturday’s practice or whether that issue had any connection to the right leg or ankle problem that forced him to leave Monday’s session early.
Henderson building on strong rookie year
Henderson currently serves as New England’s No. 2 running back behind Rhamondre Stevenson and is looking to build on an impressive start to his NFL career as he enters his second season.
The former Ohio State standout joined the Patriots after winning a national championship with the Buckeyes.
New England selected Henderson with the 38th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and signed him to a rookie contract worth approximately $11.1 million. He made an immediate impact, rushing for 911 yards while averaging a franchise rookie-record 5.1 yards per carry despite sharing the backfield with Stevenson.
Concussion interrupted Henderson’s first season
The 23-year-old has also dealt with injury concerns during his time in New England.
He suffered a concussion in Week 16 against the Baltimore Ravens after hitting his head on the turf during a tackle, which placed him in the NFL’s concussion protocol.
His production later declined during the postseason, as Henderson totaled 76 rushing yards on 30 carries across four playoff games. That included a 19-yard performance on six attempts in New England’s Super Bowl LX defeat.
