The project, called “Network Expansion Scheme in Western Region to Cater to Pumped Storage Potential near Satara (up to 4500 MW) – Part A”, was awarded through the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process, with Adani Energy Solutions emerging as the lowest bidder.
The project will be housed under a special purpose vehicle, Satara Power Transmission Ltd., and is expected to be completed within 36 months.
It will involve an estimated capital expenditure of around ₹4,700 crore and add 562 circuit kilometres (ckm) of transmission lines and 9,000 MVA of transformation capacity to Adani Energy Solutions’ portfolio.
The project includes the establishment of a 765/400 kV substation at Satara, a Kolhapur-Satara 765 kV double-circuit transmission line and augmentation of the Kolhapur pooling station, along with associated transmission infrastructure.
The transmission network will facilitate the evacuation of renewable energy generated in Karnataka to major load centres in Maharashtra and support the growing pumped-storage ecosystem across Satara, Pune and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Transmission order book rises to ₹85,000 crore
Following the win, Adani Energy Solutions’ transmission order book stands at approximately ₹85,000 crore. The project will take the company’s cumulative transmission network to 29,739 ckm, while its total transformation capacity will rise to 1,43,425 MVA.
Kandarp Patel, CEO of Adani Energy Solutions, said pumped-storage projects are becoming an important part of India’s clean energy transition by providing flexibility and reliability to integrate large-scale renewable energy into the grid.
“The Satara transmission project will create a vital transmission backbone to supports both renewable energy evacuation and energy storage deployment, strengthening power flows between Southern and Western India,” Patel said.
Adani Energy Solutions said the project will support the integration of renewable energy and energy storage while strengthening power flows between southern and western India.
The company also highlighted the broader need for transmission infrastructure as India works towards its target of installing 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity by 2030.
Shares of Adani Energy Solutions were trading 0.76% up at ₹1,606.60 as of 11.26 am on Wednesday. The stock has gained nearly 54% so far this year and about 104% over the last 12 months.
