Stock Market Closing Today: Check trends, gainers and losers on August 26, 2026

Stock Market Closing Today: Market benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty were trading higher in early trade on Wednesday, in tandem with a positive trend in global equities, amid a sharp decline in crude oil prices. Foreign fund inflows also added to the positive trend in the domestic markets.

However, indices ended in the red.

Stock Market Closing Today On August 26

On Wednesday, August 26, the 30-share BSE benchmark Sensex lost 183.15 points or 0.24 per cent to close at 77,472.94. The NSE Nifty fell 126.80 points, or 0.52 per cent, to close at 24,207.75.

The Nifty Bank index, which tracks the movement top 12 listed banks of the country, closed 269.55 points or 0.47 per cent up at 57,783.75.

NIFTY closes in red with top gainers being Kotak Bank, Axis Bank & JSW Steel. Top NIFTY losers included names of Bharti Airtel, Power Grid & Infosys.
NIFTY Bank closes in green with top gainers being Kotak Bank, Axis Bank, PNB. Top losers included names of AU Bank, IndusInd Bank & IDFC First Bank.
NIFTY IT closes in red with top draggers being Infosys, Tech Mahindra & Wipro with Oracle being the only gainer.

NIFTY Midcap 100 closes in red with top gainers being SAIL, GVT&D & LIC Housing Finance while top losers were Tata Communications, Groww & Jubilant Foodworks.

NFTY Smallcap 100 closes in green with top gainers being IDBI Bank, Capri Global & Ola Electric. Top losers included names of Inventurus Knowledge, Signatureglobal & BLS International

NIFTY Metal was the top sectoral gainer followed by NIFTY PSU bank & NIFTY Finance.

NIFTY IT was the top sectoral loser today followed by NIFTY Consumption & NIFTY FMCG.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 1,593.53 crore on Tuesday, according to exchange data.

On Tuesday, the Sensex bounced back during the fag-end of trading and was up 286.98 points, or 0.37 per cent, to settle at 77,656.09. Similarly, the Nifty ended higher by 115.50 points, or 0.48 per cent, at 24,334.55 on fag-end buying.
