Amid much buzz about director Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana‘, new reports have revealed another major character in the epic led by Ranbir Kapoor and Yash.Actor Rajiv Kumar‘s role in the film has reportedly been revealed. As per various online posts, the actor is reportedly set to play an important role in the film and is rumoured to be playing the iconic character of Raja Janak.According to reports, Kumar will reportedly play the role of Raja Janak, the father of Sita, who is played by Sai Pallavi.Kumar appeared to hint at his involvement in the project earlier this year. In July, the actor shared the film’s trailer on Instagram, expressing his excitement about being part of the ambitious adaptation. “A privilege beyond words to be part of a journey that celebrates the legacy of Ramayana. Grateful beyond measure. Yeh Hai Ram Ke Yug Ka Aarambh,” he captioned the post.If the rumours about Kumar’s casting is true, then the actor will join a long list of film stars who have played the character of Raja Janak. Actor Mulraj Rajda played the iconic role in Ramanand Sagar’s legendary 1987 television series ‘Ramayan’. Other notable actors who played the part in different adaptations include, Pradeep Sharma in ‘Ramayan’ (2002); Gyan Prakash in ‘Ramayan’ (2008); Bijay Anand in ‘Siya Ke Ram’ (2015) and Jiten Lalwani in ‘Shrimad Ramayan’ (2024).‘Ramayana’ is being mounted as a two-part cinematic spectacle, with Ranbir Kapoor playing Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash portraying Ravana. The project has generated considerable anticipation because of its scale, huge Rs 4,000 crore budget, ensemble cast and ambitious release plan.The first part of the film is slated to release on Diwali 2026. The makers officially announced last month that the movie will release internationally on November 6 and will release in India on November 8.The second part of the saga will release on Diwali 2027.
