Uae News: Final exams cancelled for IB students in UAE, alternative grading system announced | World News

Students of the International Baccalaureate (IB) across the UAE will not sit for their final exams in 2026, following the ongoing regional conflict and US-Israel-Iran conflict. Parents across IB schools were informed of the massive shift in the current exam cycle through emails sent on Monday evening. This also marks a change in the process of assessment for the students. As per a circular sent by one of the IB schools, the students will be awarded results using the Non-Exam Contingency Measure (NECM). Under the process, students will be provided final grades based on a combination of internal assessments, coursework and other academic evidence. The system is designed to maintain academic standards while reducing pressure and uncertainty among the students during an already challenging period The International Baccalaureate Organisation said it will communicate directly with the universities across the globe to ensure clarity on the NECM approach in the Middle East. The decision has been taken to prioritise student safety and ensure continuity of class cycles amid ongoing regional tensions. Elsewhere, the Ministry of Education in the country announced the continuation of distance learning in all public and private schools until Friday, April 17. This applies to all students, teachers and administrative staff in educational institutions, including nurseries, kindergartens and more nationwide. Previously, CBSE cancelled Class XII final exams in order to provide a reprieve to the anxious students and parents facing difficulties and chaos due to the current atmosphere in the country. The board announced that students would be analysed on the basis of a hybrid evaluation system. This would combine marks from completed papers with calculated averages for papers that were not conducted. The authorities in the UAE, from border patrol to education, have been taking every step necessary to ensure a smooth operation and normal life in the country while ensuring the safety of the citizens and working for their development and growth.
