Jio plans mega $4 billion IPO around Navratri-Diwali

Jio IPO Expected Date: Jio Platforms, the telecom, digital and technology arm of Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries, is likely to launch its estimated $4-billion initial public offering by the end of October or in early November, according to a report by The Economic Times.

The IPO, if launched as planned, could become India’s largest-ever public offering. According to people familiar with the development cited by ET, the company is considering the festive period around Navratri and Diwali for the launch.

Jio Platforms IPO: Sebi approves draft papers

The Securities and Exchange Board of India last week approved the draft papers for the much-awaited initial public offering of Jio Platforms, the digital services arm of Reliance Industries.

The IPO is expected to be worth around Rs 37,000-40,000 crore, which could make it one of India’s largest public offerings. In comparison, the proposed IPO of the National Stock Exchange is estimated at around Rs 30,000 crore.

Jio Platforms filed its draft IPO papers with Sebi in June.

Jio Platforms IPO size and structure

The IPO will consist entirely of a fresh issue of shares. There will be no Offer for Sale (OFS) component.

This means all the money raised through the IPO will go to Jio Platforms. Existing shareholders will not sell their shares as part of the issue.

How will Jio Platforms use the IPO money?

Jio Platforms is expected to use around Rs 27,000 crore of the IPO proceeds to repay debt.

The remaining Rs 10,000-13,000 crore will be used for general corporate purposes and to support the company’s expansion into new technology areas.

Jio Platforms business and growth areas

Jio Platforms is a technology company built around digital services and pan-India connectivity. Its businesses include mobile and fixed broadband, entertainment, cloud services, enterprise digital solutions, Internet of Things (IoT), private 5G, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.

Its profit after tax margin also improved from 19.6 per cent to 20.5 per cent during the period.
