SRINAGAR: Security forces Friday gunned down a terrorist during an anti-terror operation deep inside a forest area in J&K’s Budgam district, about 60km from Srinagar, the Army stated.Based on intelligence inputs, a joint team of the Army, J&K Police and CRPF launched a search operation in Budgam’s Ashdar Gali area, the Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps stated in an X post.Holed-up ultras opened fire at the search party, triggering a fierce gunfight in which one terrorist was shot dead. Security personnel seized an AK rifle and other war-like stores from the area. Further searches were underway, the Army said.

Earlier on July 8, a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist was killed in a fire exchange with security forces in Chanapora, Shopian district.Following the encounter, IGP Kashmir Sujit Kumar chaired a security review meeting in Srinagar ahead of the first International Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir scheduled from Sept 7-10.A police spokesperson said the IGP took stock of security preparedness, deployment plans, access control, surveillance, traffic regulation, crowd management, emergency response mechanisms, inter-agency coordination, and other arrangements being put in place for the festival, which many dignitaries and celebrities are expected to attend.
