IEX shares gain after strong volume growth performance in August, increased prices


Shares of Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) gained up to 2% on Friday, September 4, after the company reported its business update for the prior month.

IEX’s electricity traded volume increased by 20.2% to 13.94 billion units (BU) from the previous year. The company, in an exchange filing on Thursday, said this was its highest-ever monthly electricity traded volume.

Its real-time market volume was at 5.6 BU, up 10.6% from last year.

IEX’s day-ahead market (DAM) volume in August increased 15% to 5,517 million units (MU).

The company’s average market clearing price in DAM stood at ₹4.88 per unit, up 22% from last year.

IEX reported its first quarter earnings in July. Its profit after tax (PAT) increased by 11.6% to ₹134.8 crore from ₹120.7 crore in the previous year. Its revenue increased 11.4% to ₹157.9 crore from ₹141.8 crore.

The company’s earnings before interest taxes depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) increased 13.5% to ₹130.7 crore from ₹115.4 crore in the previous year. Its EBITDA margins expanded to 83% from 81.4% in the year-ago period.

IEX stated that its electricity volumes in the June quarter were up 15.9% at 37.5 BU from the previous year. Its average price in the day ahead market was at ₹5.1 per unit, up 15.7% in the corresponding quarter last fiscal.

Shares of IEX are off opening highs, currently trading 0.7% higher on Friday at ₹120. The stock is still down 10% so far this year.
