Angel One shares jump over 5% despite orders dropping in August; Here's the key reason


Shares of discount broking firm Angel One Ltd. are trading higher by as much as 5% on Friday, September 4, after the company released its business update for August 2026. The rally was also seen in the stock after the latest circular by market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) with regards to the Closing Auction Session.

In its circular on Thursday night, SEBI said that it will review the settlement price methodology for Futures & Options (F&O) contracts a month after the rollout of the Closing Auction Session (CAS).

Angel One’s average daily orders has declined month-on-month in August. However, its gross client additions and SIP registrations rose to six-month highs, while the average client funding book reached another all-time high.

Angel One’s average daily orders has declined 11% from last month to 5.21 million. The company’s average client funding book stood at ₹7,421 crore in August, up 4.8% from July and 40.2% higher than the year-ago period.

The company’s client base grew 1.4% month-on-month to 39.56 million, while gross client additions rose to 0.57 million from 0.47 million in July.

Angel One’s average daily turnover (ADTO) stood at ₹3.151 lakh crore, up 55.1% month-on-month. Equity F&O premium turnover, however, declined 15.6% from July to ₹11,300 crore.

Commodity segment ADTO grew 62.6% month-on-month to ₹2.956 lakh crore, while Angel One’s market share in the segment declined 428 basis points to 43.7%.

The broking firm’s cash market share declined 158 basis points month-on-month to 17%, while its F&O market share fell 48 basis points to 21.7%.

Of the 12 analysts covering Angel One, 10 have a ‘Buy’ rating, while two have a ‘Hold’ call on the stock.

Shares of Angel One ended 2.4% higher at ₹285.95 on Thursday. The stock is up more than 20% so far this year.
