GE Vernova T&D emerges lowest bidder for 6 GW renewable power transmission project

Power Grid of India board clears ₹2.2 lakh crore borrowing limit proposal


GE Vernova T&D India has emerged as the lowest bidder for a project from Power Grid Corporation of India to design and establish a 6,000 MW, ±800 kV high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) transmission system for evacuating renewable power from Barmer II in Rajasthan to South Kalamb.

The company said it received a letter from Power Grid on September 7 informing it that it had emerged as the L1 bidder for the project.

The project involves setting up two 3,000 MW HVDC terminal stations using line-commutated converter (LCC) technology. GE Vernova T&D India will be responsible for the design, supply and execution of the project.

The project will be executed over multiple years, the company said.

L1 status does not mean final award

GE Vernova T&D India’s L1 status means its bid was the lowest among those submitted for the project. The company did not disclose the value of the contract in its filing.

The Barmer II-South Kalamb corridor is part of India’s planned expansion of high-capacity transmission infrastructure to move renewable power from generation-heavy regions to major consumption centres. The 6 GW, 800 kV project had been approved by the National Committee on Transmission in May 2025.
