DIIs bought equities worth ₹14,678.53 crore and sold shares worth ₹13,328.89 crore on Tuesday, resulting in net buying of ₹1,349.64 crore.
On Monday, DIIs bought equities worth ₹13,154.13 crore and sold shares worth ₹12,587.37 crore, resulting in net buying of ₹566.76 crore. Tuesday’s purchases were therefore ₹782.88 crore higher than the previous session.
Foreign institutional investors, meanwhile, turned net sellers after buying equities in the previous session. FIIs bought shares worth ₹11,704.84 crore and sold shares worth ₹11,828.03 crore, resulting in net selling of ₹123.19 crore.
On Monday, FIIs had turned net buyers with net purchases of ₹280.13 crore, after selling equities worth ₹3,111.94 crore on Friday.
Indian equity markets ended sharply lower Tuesday, extending their losses on weekly expiry day. The Nifty fell below the 23,700 mark to close at 23,635, its lowest closing level in three months, while the Sensex fell 555 points to 75,778.
The Nifty Bank declined 311 points to 56,778, while the midcap index bucked the broader trend, gaining 130 points to close at 62,916. Market breadth remained weak, with the advance-decline ratio at 4:5.
Financial heavyweights and Reliance Industries were among the biggest drags on the Nifty, with ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Reliance Industries and HDFC Bank among the top losers.
IT stocks remained under pressure amid expectations of a US Federal Reserve rate hike, with Wipro emerging as the sector’s top loser.
Defence stocks, meanwhile, saw buying after the Defence Acquisition Council approved new procurement proposals, with Hindustan Aeronautics surging 4%.
GE Vernova T&D India gained 9% after emerging as the lowest bidder for a Power Grid order.
Among midcap pharmaceutical stocks, Divi’s Laboratories, Piramal Pharma and Laurus Labs advanced 3%-4%.
Bosch extended its gains from Monday, rising another 2% and taking its two-day gain to around 4%. Polycab India also moved higher, while KEI Industries ended slightly lower, tracking copper prices.
Raymond surged 11% ahead of its board meeting on fundraising. Sansera Engineering gained 3% following a positive brokerage note.
On the downside, Maithan Alloys, IFCI and IDBI Bank saw profit booking, declining 4%-10%.
