ALWAR: A video purportedly showing boxes of kalakand (a local sweet) bearing a photograph of Congress candidate Duleechand Bairwa, along with Rs 500 currency notes allegedly found inside, has gone viral a day before municipal polling in Alwar.TOI has not independently verified the video.The video is said to be from Ward 42’s Diwakari area in Alwar city.According to the visuals, the sweet boxes carried Bairwa’s photograph and allegedly contained Rs 500 notes alongside the kalakand.According to locals, a car was seen moving around the Diwakari area at around 1 am, prompting suspicion among residents.As people began following the vehicle, it was allegedly stopped at a corner in the area. The car bore registration number RJ14 CP 6770.Locals alleged that occupants of the car were seen unloading boxes from the vehicle. As a crowd gathered, the occupants allegedly abandoned the car and the boxes and fled the spot.Residents who later opened the boxes claimed to have found kalakand and Rs 500 notes inside.Vaishali Nagar police denied that any such incident had taken place in the area.Congress candidate Duleechand Bairwa dismissed the video as fake, alleging it may have been circulated to defame him ahead of the polls.BSP candidate Sumit Verma, however, alleged that Bairwa was distributing cash in exchange for votes, though the claim has not been independently verified.Reacting to the controversy, Rajasthan forest minister Sanjay Sharma said, “I have seen this video. The administration is investigating it. It is possible that it could be fake or a video from another location.”The video’s circulation comes at a sensitive time, with municipal election polling scheduled for the following day.
