Swiggy helps 50,000 delivery partners file tax returns, claim ₹6.5 crore in refunds

Swiggy gets updated food safety licence after resolving concerns raised on Toing platform

Swiggy said on Thursday that more than 50,000 delivery partners across India have used its delivery partner app to file income tax returns (ITRs), helping them claim a combined ₹6.5 crore in tax refunds.

The facility is available to delivery partners working across Swiggy’s Food Marketplace and Instamart businesses. The company said partners used it to claim refunds on the 1% tax deducted at source (TDS) from their payouts during the financial year.

More than a third of the delivery partners who used the facility filed their ITRs for the first time, Swiggy said.

The company said filing an income tax return could also help delivery partners build a financial history, which it said may support access to formal financial services such as loans and rental agreements.

Building a financial record

Saurav Goyal, chief operating officer, Food Marketplace, Swiggy, said long-term stability for delivery partners depended on building a recognised financial identity.

Enabling delivery partners to file ITRs seamlessly was helping thousands of them become part of the formal economy, Goyal said. He described the process as a stepping stone towards establishing a credit footprint and gaining access to financial services for delivery partners and their families.

Swiggy partnered with tax-technology platforms ClearTax, TaxBuddy and Dvara Money to offer the ITR filing service. The company said it had earlier partnered with the National Stock Exchange and Zerodha to provide financial training to delivery partners and make it easier for them to invest for their future.
