Following the strong record-breaking box office success of director Aditya Dhar‘s ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’, starring Ranveer Singh in the lead, a Hong Kong multiplex made headlines when it announced a special back-to-back screening of ‘Dhurandhar’ and the sequel of the espionage saga.
‘Dhurandhar’ marathon announced at Hong Kong theatres
The event, titled the ‘Dhurandhar Movie Marathon’, will release in a single extended theatrical cut, reportedly lasting nearly nine hours, Bollywood Hungama reports. The screenings are scheduled for April 12 at Premiere Elements, with three planned breaks between the two films. The announcement was shared by Hong Kong distributor AA Tech on social media. The cinematic event will allow audiences to watch the full narrative arc of Ranveer Singh’s dual characters, Jaskirat Singh Rangi and Hamza Ali Mazari.
‘Dhurandhar – Director’s Cut’ to release on April 5?
Meanwhile, unverified claims circulating on social media suggest that a similar ‘director’s cut’ release has been planned for an India release this weekend.A viral post by the handle @_mrchaturvedi alleges that an extended 7-hour-30-minute uncensored director’s cut has been cleared for limited screenings on premium formats such as IMAX, HDR, and EPIQ.According to the post, “A new certificate was issued by CBFC team today. The new version will hit premium screens from April 5th in a limited showcasing, 2 shows every week on weekends is the plan for Marathon, replicating the Hong Kong Model.” The claim is accompanied by a screenshot of an alleged CBFC certificate indicating a runtime of approximately 450 minutes that roughly equals to 7 hours and 30 minutes. An official certificate is expected to arrive later today, well in time or its planned roll out on April 5.
‘Dhurandhar – Director’s Cut’ official announcement awaited
However, no official confirmation has been issued by the filmmakers or the CBFC at the time of writing. Some users have also speculated that the viral post may be an April Fool’s Day prank, given the timing of the viral social media posts and no formal announcements as yet from the film’s team or the official handle.Should the reports prove accurate, the extended version would mark the franchise’s longest and potentially uncensored cut. The previous releases of ‘Dhurandhar’ and ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ sparked uproar over the CBFC allegedly cutting out some violent scenes in the film, despite giving it an ‘A’ certificate. The films that were released in India were notably a few minutes shorter than the original films that were released in other global markets.
