Prakash Industries gets approval to raise Bhaskarpara coal mine capacity to 1.2 MTPA


Prakash Industries Ltd on Friday (September 11) said it has received Consent to Operate (CTO) from the Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board (CECB) for the expansion of its Bhaskarpara Coal Mine production capacity from 1.0 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 1.2 MTPA, the company said on Friday (September 11).

“The company is pleased to inform that the Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board (CECB), vide its letter dated 10th September 2026, has granted Consent to Operate (CTO) for expansion of Bhaskarpara Coal Mine production capacity from 1.0 MTPA to 1.2 MTPA,” according to a stock exchange filing.

The approval was granted through a Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board letter dated September 10, 2026. It follows the Environmental Clearance granted by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, through its letter dated June 12, 2026.

Back in 2024, Prakash Industries said it had finalised the mining lease for the Bhaskarpara commercial coal mine in Surajpur district, Chhattisgarh. The lease, executed by the state government on November 21, 2024, has been registered today, granting the company coal mining rights for 30 years.

As a commercial mine, the Bhaskarpara project is also expected to generate additional revenue and enhance profitability through open-market coal sales.

“The supplies of coal from this mine shall provide stability to the company’s Integrated Steel operations as well as result in significant cost reductions. Additionally, this being a commercial mine, it shall also boost the revenue and the profitability through the sale of coal in the open market,” it added.

Shares of Prakash Industries Ltd ended at ₹123.90, down by ₹0.100, or 0.081%, on the BSE.
