Instead of asking a government office, he turned to Grok, Elon Musk’s AI chatbot, and the answer was probably far more detailed than he expected.The man asked Grok about moving to India, citizenship, government support and whether he could buy property in the country.Grok didn’t exactly make the process sound quick.According to the chatbot, naturalisation generally requires at least 12 years of lawful residence, based on 11 years of residence in the preceding 14 years and a continuous 12-month period immediately before applying.It also pointed out that India doesn’t recognise dual citizenship, meaning an Irish citizen who eventually becomes an Indian citizen would have to give up Irish nationality.And then came the part that caught the internet’s attention.The answer ended with a rather matter-of-fact reminder that citizenship approval is discretionary.The exchange was later shared by X user Peter St Onge, who simply described the whole thing as “hilarious”.Then Elon Musk joined the conversation.
