Countdown begins for Kevin Warsh-led FOMC’s interest rate decision today

All eyes on Chair Kevin Warsh as FOMC set to announce its rate cut decision tonight

US FED Meeting Live Updates: The US Federal Reserve began its two-day policy meeting on Tuesday, with markets widely expecting a 25 basis point interest rate hike when the decision is announced on Wednesday at 11:30 PM IST. If delivered, it would be the Fed’s first rate increase since the post-pandemic tightening cycle ended in 2023.

Expectations for a hike have strengthened as US inflation remains above the Fed’s 2% target, while higher energy prices and geopolitical tensions in West Asia have added to concerns over persistent price pressures.

Beyond the rate decision, investors will closely track the Fed’s Summary of Economic Projections, or “dot plot”, for clues on the future path of interest rates, inflation and economic growth. Any signal that rates could remain higher for longer could have implications for global bond yields, capital flows and currencies, including the Indian rupee and Indian equities.

Stay tuned for live updates.
