Indian Oil Corp, in a post on X on Saturday, said there is a message going viral on social media that petrol pump owners in Madhya Pradesh are not accepting UPI payments exceeding ₹2,000 in protest against merchant fees and will obser a ‘No-UPI Day’ on September 23. “The viral message is fake and misleading. No such restriction on UPI payments exceeding ₹2,000 has been announced by petrol pump owners in Madhya Pradesh,” Indian Oil Corp said.
It added that some individuals who are not even petroleum dealers have made such baseless claims.
It said petroleum dealers’ associations, in fact, have been in regular touch with ministry officials and no such ‘No-UPI Day’ strike has been announced or informed. “Petrol pump dealers have been at the forefront of promoting digital payments,” Indian Oil Corporation stated.

UPI payments are set to witness a pricing change for some merchant transactions from October 15. While consumers can continue to use UPI without paying a fee, select merchant transactions over 2,000 will attract a merchant discount rate (MDR). Click here to read all about the new charges.
Shares of Indian Oil Corporation ended the previous session 1.3% up at ₹136 apiece. The stock has declined 16.1% this year, so far.
