In addition, banks remain closed across India on Sundays, the second Saturday and the fourth Saturday of every month.
The RBI notifies bank holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, along with state government notifications and RBI guidelines.
Customers are advised to check the holiday calendar before visiting a branch and plan important banking transactions accordingly.

RBI bank holiday list for October 2026
October 2: Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti
Banks across the country will remain closed on October 2 on account of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti.
October 10: Mahalaya Amavasye
October 10 is also the second Saturday, when banks remain closed across India. In addition, branch operations in Bengaluru and Kolkata will remain suspended on account of Mahalaya Amavasye.
October 17: Maha Saptami
Banks in Agartala will remain closed on October 17 on account of Maha Saptami.
October 19: Dussehra (Mahashtami)/Maha Navami/Ayutha Pooja/Durga Puja/Vijaya Dashomi/Durga Ashtami
Banks in Agartala, Aizawl, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Guwahati, Imphal, Itanagar, Kohima, Kolkata, Patna, Ranchi and Shillong will remain closed on October 19.
October 20: Dasara/Dussehra (Vijaya Dashmi)/Mahanavami, Ayudhapooja/Durga Puja
Banks in most cities will remain closed on October 20 on account of Dussehra, Mahanavami or Durga Puja. Gangtok and Imphal are exceptions.
October 21: Vijaya Dasami/Durga Puja (Dasain)
Banks in Agartala, Bengaluru, Gangtok, Guwahati, Kochi, Kolkata and Thiruvananthapuram will remain closed on October 21.
October 22 and 23: Durga Puja (Dasain)
Banks in Gangtok will remain closed on October 22 and 23.
October 26: Laxmi Puja/Accession Day/Maharishi Valmiki’s Birthday
Banks in Agartala, Chandigarh, Jammu, Shimla and Srinagar will remain closed on October 26 on account of Laxmi Puja, Accession Day and Maharishi Valmiki’s Birthday.
October 29: Karva Chauth
Banks in Shimla will remain closed on October 29 on account of Karva Chauth.
October 31: Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s Birthday
Banks in Ahmedabad will remain closed on October 31 to mark Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birthday.
Bank weekend closures in October 2026
Apart from national and state-specific holidays, banks across India will remain closed on Sundays — October 4, 11, 18 and 25. Banks will also remain closed on the second Saturday, October 10, and the fourth Saturday, October 24, in line with RBI guidelines.
While branches will remain closed on these days, customers can continue to use digital banking services. NEFT, RTGS, internet banking, mobile banking, UPI and ATM services continue to be available on bank holidays.
