JSW Thermal has placed the order with Toshiba JSW Power Systems Private Ltd, an associate company of JSW Energy. The latest order covers 1,600 MW of capacity for Phase II. It follows the earlier placement of orders for the Phase I units, comprising two 800 MW units, which was intimated on January 15, 2026.
With the latest contract, turbine-generator equipment orders have now been placed for all four 800 MW units, totalling 3,200 MW, at the Salboni project. The turbine-generator package will be manufactured and supplied in line with the project’s construction schedule to support the timely completion and commissioning of the plant.

JSW Energy said sourcing key equipment through an associate company is aimed at enhancing supply-chain certainty, improving coordination during execution and reducing risks arising from industry-wide equipment shortages.
JSW Energy currently has an installed thermal generation capacity of 5,958 MW and 5,000 MW of capacity under construction. The under-construction capacity comprises 3,200 MW at Salboni and 1,800 MW at JSW Mahanadi Power Company Limited (JMPCL).

This builds on our partnership with Toshiba, which dates back to 2008, and on JSW Energy’s clear right to win in thermal power: proven delivery of large-sized thermal projects, a healthy balance sheet, and early securing of fuel, land, and key equipment.
Salboni TPP will provide reliable baseload power alongside India’s renewable expansion, and it contributes directly to the nation’s roadmap of adding nearly 100 GW of thermal capacity for Atmanirbhar Bharat.”
JSW Energy has a total locked-in generation capacity of 32.4 GW — comprising 15.0 GW operational and 13.4 GW under construction across thermal, hydro, and renewables — along with a pipeline of 4.0 GW. Locked-in energy storage capacity stands at 29.6 GWh, comprising 26.4 GWh of pumped hydro storage and 3.2 GWh of battery energy storage.

The company is targeting 30 GW of generation capacity and 40 GWh of energy storage by 2030, and carbon neutrality by 2050. Shares of JSW Energy Ltd ended at ₹507.30, down by ₹2.90, or 0.57%, on the BSE.
